Benevolent Street Zendo

We meet weekly on Monday evenings, starting at 7 p.m. The schedule for each evening includes a Zen liturgy, and 25 minute sitting periods with walking meditation in between.

Roshi James Ford gives brief private spiritual practice interviews (dokusan) twice a month in the mornings. Please call for details.

James or an occasional visiting teacher gives a Dharma talk (teisho) on most first Mondays.

Practice Leader

Jan Seymour-Ford has been a student of Zen for more than twenty years. Her primary teacher is John Tarrant Roshi of the Pacific Zen Institute. She is a Senior Dharma Teacher within the Boundless Way Zen community.

Teacher

James Ishmael Ford was ordained a Soto Zen priest and received Dharma transmission from the late Houn Jiyu Kennett Roshi. He has also received Inka Shomei within the Harada-Yasutani Zen lineage from John Tarrant Roshi, who gave him the title “roshi,” meaning “old teacher.” James is one of the three teachers of the Boundless Way Zen sangha, and its founding School Abbot.

James is also an ordained Unitarian Universalist minister, currently serving as minister of the First Unitarian Church of Providence. His most recent book is Zen Master Who? A Guide to the People and Stories of Zen, published by Wisdom Publications. He has co-edited with Melissa Myozen Blacker The Book of Mu: Essential Writings on Zen’s Most Important Koan, which is due from Wisdom PUblications on the 1st of May, 2011.
